Blog Post #6: How Do I Be A Part Of It?
Disclaimer: This is NOT a post about guilting anyone into donating or volunteering, however, more often than not I’m asked, “Is there anything I can do?”
This is a ministry. The answer is, “Yes! Of course!”
And here’s the best part! It doesn’t have to be a huge commitment unless you want it to be!
Much of the time the best way for you to be involved and/or support our ministry is to take part in our services to the community. Shop in our stores, use our catering service, or attend our special events. That’s right! Spend your money with us. This helps build a strong local community, promotes small business, helps us continue to support our ministry financially, and you receive a great service, great food, and great stuff for less. It’s simple economics and if it’s all the further you want to commit it helps more than you know.
Another way you can help is to donate. You can donate monetarily, of course, but there are several other ways to donate as well. We host an emergency food/ dry goods bank and you can donate those types of pantry items to us. We store them in our pantry for others in need of them. You can donate clothing, household items, furniture, appliances, and pretty much anything that is still usable to our thrift stores. This helps us generate funds AND offers worthy items at a lesser to cost to those in need. We also host a men’s shelter. Care packages with socks, toiletries, underwear, and other necessities are always appreciated for the men who come through our program who often arrive with nothing more than the items they are wearing. So basically it can be as easy as getting rid of the stuff you no longer need or want. It gets a new home, you get to de-clutter, and less goes into our landfills. Win-win-win!
Lastly, you can donate your most precious gift of all: your time. If you find you have extra time on your hands and you have a heart for volunteering, you may want to help by joining our ministry family. We have reception work, thrift store positions, general maintenance/handyman/cleaning positions that we always need help with. Are you great at organizing? Do you love to rearrange/redecorate? Are you a jack-of-all-trades? These beautiful people bless us with their gifts and we appreciate all the help we can get.
If you haven’t heard about us and the kinds of ministries we do please refer to our previous blog post. You’ll see what speaks to your heart or interests. And know it can be as easy as eating a dinner.
God bless and thank you to all who help support us!
